Huayi

Grow Greatness with F&N MAGNOLIA Fresh Milk

Protecting the environment starts with YOU. Each one of us can do our part in reducing the carbon footprint and building a greener nation for our future generations by three simple steps - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Collectively, simple efforts have a big impact on the preservation of our planet.

F&N MAGNOLIA now uses F&N MAGNOLIA Forest Stewardship CouncilTM (FSCTM) milk cartons for their 1-litre milk packs as a global movement to protect Mother Nature. The FSCTM certification ensures that the paperboard used, comes from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources where new trees are planted to replace those harvested. Consumers can also contribute to the protection of the world’s forests and wildlife by selecting F&N MAGNOLIA, and also by recycling the F&N MAGNOLIA FSCTM milk cartons.

F&N MAGNOLIA has come up with The Growing Greatness campaign, inviting all Singaporeans to join the movement to care for the environment in a fun and interactive manner - recycling the new F&N MAGNOLIA FSCTM milk cartons as plant pots. This initiative not only meant to beautify our lives with greeneries, but also encourages a sense of responsibility in forging a better life for our families.

To kick start the campaign, with every purchase of two 1-litre packs of F&N Magnolia Fresh Milk, onsumers can redeem a stylish, eco-friendly bag for a limited period and while stocks last at supermarkets, hypermarkets and participating outlets.

In additional, every purchase of two 1-litre packs of F&N MAGNOLIA Fresh Milk entitles the consumers a Grow Greatness Starter Kit that comes with sachet of soil and a pack of plant seeds to help start the movement to Grow Greatness by planting, growing and caring for a beautiful flowering plant.

Grow Greatness Diary Instagram Contest
From now till 31 March, consumers can take snap shots of their ‘Grow Greatness’ plant grown in F&N MAGNOLIA FSCTM-certified cartons and upload them on instagram with hashtag #fnnmagnolia, #magnoliaFSC and #growgreatnessSG. [Musical Review] Let's Bo Bo Cha Cha with Great World Cabarets

The Great World Cabaret 《综艺大世界》 is a first ever collaboration between RWS and Singapore’s leading theatrical company, Dream Academy, featuring top local talents in performing arts.

The Great World is headlined by a different stand-up local comedian every week, including Mark Lee 李国煌, Hossan Leong 梁荣耀, Judee Tan 陈映奇 and “Broadway Beng” Sebastian Tan 陈瑞彪, and complemented by an illusionist, dancing girls, singers, acrobats and more.

This entertaining live theatrical variety show is created by prolific local comedienne, Selena Tan 陈美廩, founder of Dream Academy and best known for popular productions including The Dim Sum Dollies®, Broadway Beng® and The Hossan Leong Show. The Great World Cabaret is set to take audiences back to the exuberant “Bo Bo Cha Cha” days of Singapore’s yesteryears, where dancing girls, comedians and acrobats would light up the stage with glitz and glee. The show features three home-grown legends who graced the stages of nightclubs and amusement parks across Singapore in its early years of independence - Rose Chan (played by Seong Hui Xuan 常惠旋); popular Malay folk singer, Kartina Dahari (played by Aisyah Aziz); and Singapore's reigning a-go-go and yodeling queen, Sakura Teng (played by Joanna Dong 董姿彦). Audiences can look forward to a blast from the past as they sing and tap along to familiar classics like《玫瑰玫瑰我爱你》, 《茉莉花》,Shake Shake Shake and Bunga Melur.

An old security guard closes up a museum exhibit for the night. The exhibit evokes long forgotten memories of his brightest moments as a host of Singapore’s most famous nightclub, the Great World Cabaret.

His memories take centre stage as the cabaret comes to life. Dancing girls, acrobats from all over the world, a magician, amazing singers and more fill the stage. Set against this loud and colourful backdrop, he meets the girl of his dreams.

At the climax of the cabaret show, his memories start to fade and he finds himself back at the museum, unsure if time had really gone backwards or if it was nothing more than an old man’s daydream.

This year, Singapore is celebrating SG50 and the Great World Cabaret certainly brings back fond memories of the Great World Amusement Park / New World Amusement Park / Gay World Amusement Park to the older generation.  It also allows the younger generation to experience for themselves the past entertainment and leisure that their parents or grandparents used to have and considered as extravagant back then. I was totally astonished and captivated by  Kartina Dahari (played by Aisyah Aziz) when she sing the Chinese Folk song 《茉莉花》, her pronunciation is rather accurate too. When Joanna Dong 董姿彦 sings, her voice does hold a resemblance to the a-go-go and yodeling queen, Sakura Teng.  My mom used to a fan of Sakura Teng and I have heard quite a numbers of her songs during my childhood days.  The drunken sailors are pretty comical and entertaining.  The acrobatic stunts performed by the Qing Dao Acrobacticv Troup are pretty impressive too.  As usual, the local king, Mark Lee 李国煌, never failed to make us laugh aloud. However, I believe the other weeks’lined-up comedian such as Hossan Leong, Judee Tan and Sebastian Tan will be bringing you same enjoyment as they are just as great as a comedian as Mark Lee.  Thanks Samuel for inviting to this entertaining production!

Come, #LetsBoBoChaCha @ Resort World Sentosa!

Triumph In The Skies 《衝上云霄》 Movie Review

Movie Synopsis
Young pilot Branson (Louis KOO) recently takes over Skylette, his father’s aviation empire, only to realize his old flames Cassie (Charmaine SHEH) is a flight attendant there. Several years ago, he was forced to break up with her and move to New York to take care of his father's business. To this day, the two continue to harbor feelings for each other...

In an effort to rebrand the airline, Branson invites rock idol TM (Sammi CHENG) to star in an upcoming commercial and appoints Sam (Fransic NG) as her flying consultant. Incongruent in both tastes and experience, this odd couple gets off on the wrong foot. As the shoot progresses, however, they slowly discover each other's merits, developing a strong mutual attraction.

Jayden (Julien CHEUNG) has left Skylette Airline to become a pilot for private jets. He meets the young and vivacious Kika (KUO Tsai Chieh) during a flight and assumes her to be wayward and shallow. But they turn out to have a lot in common and start falling madly in love. At the height of their romance, Jayden realizes almost too late the secret behind her recalcitrance…

Each of the three relationships comes with its own setbacks. As long as one can accept the imperfection of things, finding happiness—however fleetingly—is a blessing in itself.

他与公司的空中服務員Cassie(佘詩曼飾)原來是前度關係。

Movie Review
Triumph in the Skies is Hong Kong's first television drama on aviation which first premiered in October 2003 as one of the year's biggest productions. The series was shot in beautiful locations like Rome, Florence, Sapporo and flight school Flight Training Adelaide. Ten years later, the sequel to Triumph in the Skies began shooting in 2012 and was aired in July 2013. The crew shot in England, France, Hainan, Gaoxiong and Kenting.

For this movie, some of the characters remain with the addition of Branson (Louis KOO),  Cassie (Charmaine SHEH) and Kika (KUO Tsai Chieh). If you are expecting the movie to be along the similar storyline as the drama serial, then you will be disappointed.  At least this is the feedback that I gathered from those who had watch the drama serial before.

As I have not watched the drama serial, therefore my review will likely be more neutral as there wasn't any particular expectations from me.  Other than the story continue to surround the airline company, Skylette, there is totally no connection to the drama serial. While the movie is starred by many mega stars it is presented in anthology style, with three short romance stories of these pilots.  It will suits more of those who are into romance movies or the typical fans of these casts.

Branson (Louis KOO) and Cassie (Charmaine SHEH) is much of a romantic story, where ex-lovers meet again and the love is rekindled.  The retro colour tone sets in the mood real well.  There is great chemistry between the two and the lovey dovey moments are so natural that they felt like a real couple.

Sam (Fransic NG) and TM (Sammi CHENG) are a very cute couple where they get to know each other through conflicts.  From the detesting each other to falling in love, there are many cute and funny moments which brings us to great laughter. And one thing for sure, Sammi has a great charisma as TM, the Rock Chic, she is so cool that I can't get my eyes off her!  And the song "Over the Rainbow" turned to a rock song, was pretty cool and only towards the end of the movie, I realised it was actually rearranged by the true blue Rock Chic - Rock Mui, Ellen Loo and her team.

Jayden (Julien CHEUNG) and Kika (KUO Tsai Chieh) is more of typical "ill-fated" couple that need to go through the obstacles in life to be together. The bathtub scene is probably the most memorable moment of the two, but if you were expecting some steamy moments, sorry, you will be disappointed.

Asked which of the 3 stories I love most, I'll tell you it definitely got to be the story of Sam (Fransic NG) and TM (Sammi CHENG) !  The chemistry between them is somehow awkward yet interesting and beyond words. I just can't help wanting to know what's going to happen next in the story development.

電影其實以三部愛情小品串成,圍繞著Branson(古天樂飾)與Cassie(佘詩曼飾)﹔ Sam(吳鎮宇飾)與搖滾歌手 TM(鄭秀文飾)﹔ 及顧夏陽Jayden(張智霖飾)與Kika(郭採潔飾),三對情侶。

Triumph in the Skies  will be screening in local cinemas on 19th February 2015 !

King of Mahjong《麻雀王》Movie Trailer

Movie Review:
This is definitely a great movie for the family to watch together during the Lunar New Year. Why I wanted to watch this movie, is mainly because of the veteran comedian, Chapman To who is greatly loved by our family members, of course, not forgetting our local King, Mark Lee.  My initial thought that this is a purely gambling comedy movie.  After watching, I realised that the movie has more depth than what I thought.

The movie tries to bring out the benefits of mMahjong games, not to promote gambling but promoting it as a healthy social activity. AsMahjong requires players to use attention, memory, planning and calculation skills, this serves as a great treatment for dementia. Even for senior citizens who are not suffering from dementia, mMahjong can help in improving one's cognitive development,. It helps to keep one's mind sharp by exercising it through the games, allowing one to react faster.

On the other hand, it also stressed that while playing mahjong can be entertaining, it can be disastrous should one get addictive and got into excessive gambling. In additional, it emphasizes that that one should learn to enjoy the process and not be obsessive with the idea of "winning".  Sometimes, to lose is to win. What does it means to you when you win the whole world yet losing your loved ones?

What I loved best in the movie, is that majority of the dialogue is in Cantonese! Woo hoo, when is the last time we ever get to watch a movie that mainly in Cantonese in Singapore?  Fret not should you do not understand Cantonese as there is subtitles in both English and Chinese that help you understand what's going on. The special appearance by veteran actor and actress - Lo Hoi Pang, Kingdom Yuen, Mimi Chu and Susan Shaw, though short, leaves an impression with their great natural acting skills.

King of Mahjong will be screening in Singapore from 19 February 2015 and in Malaysia from 26 February 2015.
