[Movie Review] Meet Miss Anxiety 《

There's hardly any movie that I would want to watch more than twice, "My Sassy Girl" is probably the only movie I watched four times!!!  Coincidentally, I've also watched "Cyborg Girl" at least two times. And each time I watch these two movies, I still get touched and got into tears. And never did I realise that both movies by same director - KWAK Jae-yong and are part of his "Asian Girlfriends Trilogy".  Upon learning this, I got super excited about catching "Meet Miss Anxiety", which is the final sequel to the trilogy.

Four years ago, Qi Jia’s beloved college boyfriend Liu Chong plans to work in Beijing, while Qi prefer to stay in her home town. At their graduation ceremony, Qi proposes to Liu in the public, only to be rejected, which ends their love story. After their graduation, Qi got very passive and and rented a flat together with her schoolmate, Yuan Xiao’ou who was homeless at that time. Qi had never heard from Liu Chong after then until she got his wedding invitation two years later, she was devastated and caught an early menopause syndrome...

                               Zhang Zilin
Genre 類型       Comedy/Romance 喜劇/愛情

Movie Review /
The movie is very light-hearted and draws many laughter throughout with the humorous dialogue.  At the same time, it is a very heart-warming and touching, and stirred much emotions.  A truly delightful movie that brings you to laughter and tears at the same time.  Beside the great cinematography, this is also a good mix of beautiful music as the film score which seems to be one distinctive traits of
KWAK Jae-yong's movie.  Apparently Jae-young Kwak has a fetish for the song "Canon In D", which is used as film score for both "My Sassy Girl" and "Meet Miss Anxiety".

No doubt, Zhou Xun's charisma really brings out the character well, however, the years are unforgiving, we can't deny that she stand to loose out to the young and new actress, Zhang Zilin. Many times, we got distracted by the beauty of Zhang Zilin. Though Zilin is young and pretty, I feel that Zhou Xun may still be the one, more suited for the character.  If only this movie is filmed 5 years earlier, it will probably be a more convincing one as it is a real challenge for the forty year old Zhou Xun to act as a 20+ year old gal.

Afterthoughts: Many times, we are seeking high and low for "The ONE", however, most often, it is after having gone around in circles, that we came to realise that we are actually in love with our own infatuation and "The ONE" has always been around you.

MEET MISS ANXIETY will be screening in local cinemas on 5th February 2015.

Last but not least, thanks Clover Films for the invitation to this special preview.

When I got the invitation to watch the movie, it didn't take me long to consider.  Not because it is free, but rather, it's a movie by Tsui Hark. Upon watching the movie, I was sort of taken aback by the modern settings as I had initially thought that it is a wuxia flicks, looking at the poster, without scrutinizing in details. Neither had I read the synopsis and trailer prior hand.  Read on to understand the details.

Brief Synopsis:
Adapted from the famous Chinese novel "Tracks in the Snowy Forest", the movie is set during the civil war era of 1946, when ruthless bandits occupied Northeastern China and threatened the lives of civilians there. The most powerful bandit of all was Mountain Eagle (Tony LEUNG Ka-fai), with an impenetrable fortress up in Tiger Mountain,  armed with strong artillery. Unit 203 of the Liberation Army, led by SHAO (LIN Gengxin), was crossing the Northeastern region when they encountered Eagle's men raiding a village. SHAO decided to stay and fight against Eagle. Headquarters sent a skilled investigator YANG (ZHANG Hanyu), who infiltrated Eagle's gang as an undercover. The duo was soon engaged in a battle of wits with the cold-blooded Eagle, deep inside the snowy forest.

Directed by: TSUI Hark

While you see a tiger in the poster, the story does not revolve around it, it is only part of one scene where you see how YANG managed to deal with it with his wittiness. The pace is a bit slow during the beginning of the movie, luckily it did not last long enough to get me totally bored.  The movie is clearly designed for 3D, so even though we are watching it in 2D, we can still feel the "popping" effect.
As the story goes by, I managed to grasp better and enjoy the movie more.  Love the clever battle strategy used against the bandits and YANG's wittiness and swiftness, and his charisma indeed captivated me. LIN Gengxin's appearance is much different from his previous movie characters.  Cast aside is, his usual clean and boyish looks with a bit of cheekiness; he turned to a matured and solemn military leader.  While his fans may lament that it is a pity to hide his clean look, I beg to defer, as this may be a turning point for him, to let others pay more attention on his acting skills than his look. While Chen Xiao is a supporting role, there is something about him that caught the attention of several of us, watch for yourself and see if you feel the same.

The alternative ending is basically exaggerating and redundant, though some may enjoy the actions and blasting effects. The use of flash backs from modern times back to the civil war era and back to present-day were somehow unessential and badly done. However, as an overall, the film is still a great movie with the great & swift actions, witty mind games, and clever battle strategy.

[Food Review] Insadong Korea Town @ Resorts World Sentosa

Stepping into Insadong Korea Town @ Resort World Sentosa makes you feel like you are in the land of Korea!  Signboards, fixtures and decorations are actually imported from Korea to replicate the setting of the famous Insadong Korea Street in Seoul, which is popular for their Korean traditional cuisine, culture and crafts.  Other than savouring authentic Korean cuisine, you can shop for Korean merchandise, accessories and souvenirs at the retail carts.

Recipes are brought in from Korea, with food supplies air flown direct from Korea; true blue Korean chefs are also hired to present diners with an authentic Korean dining experience.   With an assortment of over 200 types of authentic Korean, Korean-Chinese, Korean-Western, Korean-Japanese cusine and street food, there is bound to have something that suit your taste bud!

The food order system at Insadong Korea Town is pretty similar to the concept of Marché.  Only that Insadong Korea Town is using self ordering kiosk, which currently, accepts only cash payment.  Other modes of payment including credit card payment will be implemented later.

First, select the food item and place the order with quantity required, followed by pressing the green button at the bottom right and a receipt will be dispensed. Present your receipt at the counter in exchange for a ‘beeper’ that will beep to alert that food is ready.

On a sunny island of Singapore, it is great to have a cup of Iced Honey Citron Tea (S$4) which is both refreshing and thirst quenching.

The Kimchi Pancake is sure authentic and savoury.  It taste even better after dip with the vinegar soy sauce, simply appetising!

Toppoki which is basically Korean Rice Cake - it is spicy but simply shiok! Slurp!

The Ginseng Chicken Soup (S$28) taste sort of bland and I could hardly taste the ginseng.  It taste better after milk is added, and chicken spliced open with the ingredients stuffed within the chicken mixed with the broth.

The proper way to eating Bossam is to have the pork belly, kimchi, garlic and chilli slices, together with ssamjang bean-and-chili paste, wrapped in a lettuce. I would prefer the pork belly slices to be slightly thinner as they are overcooked and tend to be tough and dry.

I'm sure there are many people out there who love Xiao Long Bao like me. But Xiao Long Bao in Kimchi Soup (S$13)???  Isn't this innovative?  The kimchi soup is very appetising, to level up the spiciness, we pour the chilli sauce to the soup and it is simply mind blowing!

The thick and creamy sauce of the Pumpkin spaghetti tasted like salted egg which is why I like this dish!  However, you need to eat this dish while it is hot, otherwise, you may feel surfeit due to its creaminess.

Mushroom Beef Bulgogi Hotpot for 4 or more to share (S$40) has a good mix of mushroom, Jap chae (better known as Korean glass noodles) and beef. I love the springy jap chae and mushroom!!!

Beef Bulgogi Baked Rice (S$15) - not to my fancy as I'm generally not a beef lover. I find that it taste better when mixed with the Mushroom Beef Bulgogi Hotpot as it is a bit too dry.

The Water-melon Soju (S$30) has to be one my favourite!  The cocktail mix of water-melon juice and soju taste sweet and mild, great for those who hardly drink / don't fancy alcohol.  However for the alchohol lovers, they may find the content level of alcohol is too low.

The Mixed Fruits Shaved Ice (S$10)looks lovely with the colors, love the mix of the fruits.

Highlight of the night- Jcone (S$6)!  Apparantly, this is very popular in Korea, this is definitely too much for 1 pax to have as dessert, unless this is going to be your main! But it's challenging to break it into parts for sharing as the corn cone is rather thick and tough.  Interesting dessert and some naughty guys relate it to... (Think beyond only if you are qualify to watch R21)

What's better than getting Ms. Jacq to pose with the Jcone

The Red Bean Pancake (S$7.80) is delightful and I love the red bean paste for being moderately sweet, and thank god, it's not too oily too.  But if the dough is thinner or with a thicker red bean paste, this dessert would be perfect!

Overall, I feel that dining at Insadong is still enjoyable and affordable.  There is a wide variety of choice and pricing is rather reasonable so it will be probably be a great option for the larger family / group when on an escapade at Resort World Sentosa.

Last but not least, thanks TIN for inviting!
