[Musical Review] Matilda The Musical Singapore Review @ Marina Bay Sands
Winner of 101 international awards, including 24 for Best Musical, the celebrated stage adaption of Roald Dahl’s beloved story of an extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny, has received raving reviews since its opening on 9 March 2024.
Yolani Balfour as Matilda, while being petite, stood tall to the indomitable Miss Trunchbull, played by James Wolstenholme. Her soulful voice, in particular, captivates one’s heart and make it difficult for one to hold back tears.
The kindhearted Miss Honey, played by Gemma Scholes, had a really sweet voice and warmed the hearts of the audience… And not forgetting the terrifying Trunchbull, played by James Wolstenholme, seemingly walked out from the movie itself, displaying the MOST devilish side of a nasty character with distorted thoughts. Enjoyed the sexy dance moves by Emily Squibb as Mrs. Wormwood, aside from her performance. The supporting cast of students and stunt performers need to be acknowledged for making some of the most whimsical scenes with the help of illusions, making audience having jaw-dropping moments!
