[Food Review] Jiang Ji Traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice at Yishun Ring Road [ CEASED OPERATION]

Meet Javier, the new generation young hawker!

Together with the Kiang Siblings: his dad - Alvin, uncle - Raymond and aunt - Susan, they are inspired and determined to preserve the recipe of their grandfather/father - renown Sergeant Kiang (former Chef of Chatterbox), and to keep the traditional Hainanese chicken rice heritage alive with 𝐉𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐢 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞.

Their chicken rice is firm and fragrant, well soaked in the chicken stock with no MSG. You can have it with their Signature steamed chicken / roasted chicken / Hainanese chicken chop or chicken char siew. Both steamed and roasted chicken are tender & juicy. The Hainanese chicken chop, flavourful and appetising. Jiang Ji has replaced the typical Hainanese pork chop with chicken chop, partly to be in line with the chicken menu and also, to have a better control over the quality.  Dig in to the succulent chicken char siew which you almost thought, is the usual pork char siew.  The taste is well balance and not too sweet with the char siew sauce. While the stall is not halal certified, they do not serve pork nor lard.

To me, when eating chicken rice, other than the chicken and rice, the condiments are just as important! Jiang Ji uses quality dark soya sauce which you can really taste the difference by its fragrance. It isn't diluted where quality is being comprised. Their home made chilli sauce, made using chilli, lime, garlic and ginger, has a tangy taste and freshly made daily, one simply can’t help having more. Many customers are requesting Jiang Ji to sell their chilli sauce but they are not ready to sell in bulks yet as currently no preservative is added to their chilli sauce.  They also offer ginger paste for their chicken rice, which is not over powering.

Apart from the above mentioned chicken dishes, they also sells shredded chicken congee, shredded chicken macaroni, as well as, oyster sauce vegetable, chicken mixed organs (liver & gizzards), braised tau kua, and braised egg, etc., as sides.

If you want to have a taste of traditional Hainanese chicken rice, Jiang Ji is the stall to go to! I can assure you, it is more of an all rounder vs. many well known chicken rice stalls, given that they fare generally well in all aspects, in terms of chicken, rice and condiments.
