[Food Review] Citrus By The Pool @ Woodlands Swimming Complex

Citrus By The Pool is a Halal-certified cafe, located at the Woodlands Swimming complex and near to the Woodlands ActiveSG Sports Centre.  It is a great venue for hangout after a workout.  They have a nice mural wall which is great for group picture with your family and friends

The 70-seaters cafe, offers a variety of Western and Asia fusion. Love the retro display within the restaurant and the black glass panel with the hand drawn highlight dishes.

We have tried out a variety of existing dishes from the menu, along with new seasonal dishes.

The BIG Boss Burger ($17.90) consist of double patty of Beef & Mutton, sandwiched between the charcoal bun. The Cajun fries is simply addictive that we can't help munching and cleared all.  For those with smaller appetite, you can go for the Little Boss Burger ($14.90) instead, with single patty.

The Tom Yam Seafood Pasta ($13.90) is one of the signature dish with a refreshing taste. The Tom Yam broth is flavourful and the spiciness is of moderate.  However, some do find it too sourish but I personally feels it acceptable since I prefer my Tom Yam with a punch of sourish taste rather than just spiciness.

The 2 newly added dishes are the Tobiko Pasta with Smoked Duck and Dry Curry Chicken Pasta, that are both under the seasonal menu. Coincidentally, these 2 new dishes are my Top Favourite of the night, followed by the Tom Yam Seafood Paste

I like that Tobiko Pasta with Smoked Duck ($12.90) tasted light yet delectable, with the  smoked duck slices, topped with tobiko (flying fish roe) and furikake (Japanese seasoning).

The Dry Curry Chicken Pasta ($11.90) is an Asian infused pasta. The linguine is totally soaked in the dry curry, totally flavoursome, served with tender chicken fillets. The spiciness kicks in slowly and before you know it, you feels fiery hot! For those who have really low threshold for spicy food, may need to avoid this dish.

The Strawberry Gem Mighty Milkshake ($8.90) and Caramel Popcorn Mighty Milkshake ($9.90) can be considered the few most instagrammable drinks offered by Citrus By The Pool.  First sight of both milkshakes leads one to thinking, these must be really sweet, and probably overly sweet.  Surprisingly, the Strawberry Gem Mighty Milkshake turns out to be of moderate sweetness and it actually helps to ease the spiciness of the Dry Curry Chicken Pasta. As for the Caramel Popcorn Mighty Milkshake, it is more suitable for those with a sweet tooth, it is rather sweet, but not exactly overly sweet.

Both Cool As a Cucumber ($7.90) and What A Peach! ($8.90) Mocktails are somewhat refreshing, however, the for some, the citrus taste of lime / lemon within the Cool As a Cucumber cocktail may be overpowering.  While I'm a great fan for cucumber juice, What a Peach!  has actually won my heart this round!

Most of you may have knew, I am really not a fan of mutton and lamb because of fear for the gamey taste.  The Cajun Lamb Rack ($21.90) does have a slight gamey taste but the cajun sauce make up for it.  Do take note if you do not state your preference, you will likely get your Lamb Rack at medium rare which is a popular choice by most patrons. I must say the whip potato added bonus point to the dish.

For dessert, we had the Molten Chocolate Lava Cake with a scoop of Thai Milk Tea / Chocolate Mint Ice Cream ($10.90). The Thai Milk Tea is lightly flavoured and I prefer the Chocolate Mint Ice-cream.  The ice-cream laid on a bed of matcha powder that add some crunches. Eat your Molten Chocolate Lava Cake and ice-cream of moderate sweetness with the slices of strawberry will makes you feel less surfeit.

Overall, we have had an hearty meal at the Citrus By The Pool, I would highly  recommend to go for their pastas which are delectable, as well as their dessert!
