"Sinful" Sunday

Have planned to join Kit Kiat & his family for a dim sum breakfast at Red Star Restaurant Pte Ltd at Chin Swee Road on last Sun Morning. However, to our horror, people are not only queuing up for entry but also queuing to pay the bills. As no one has called in advance to make reservation, we have decided to drop the idea and Kiat's brother suggested to go The Cathay Restaurant for dim sum. We are surprise to know that dim sum is actually available there.

The restaurant is renovated with fushion mix of modern & oriental style, decorated with many vintage posters which are collections of the restaurant owner. In fact, there is also a open gallery however, it is not open on Sundays, which is a pity.

Surprisingly, the Cathay Restaurant offers very yummy dim sum. The staff there are also very friendly and service oriented, esp, their assistant Manager, Miss Irene Koh. As there are total 5 of us, it is sort of difficult to order, in order for everyone to try the dim sum, we need to order 2 servings each (each serving consists of 3-4pcs of the dim sum). Miss Irene actually propose to help us with a special serving for 5 with a slight premium so that we get to try more variety. It is real considerate of her.

Of all the dim sum, my favourite are Mini Pork Dumpling with Spicy Sauce(京川饺子), Deep Fried Taro Rolls with Chicken & Mushrooms(香芋丑小鸭), and Baked BBQ Pork Pastry(蜜汁叉烧酥).

The Pork Dumpling with Spicy Sauce(京川饺子) comes with special sauce which adds the tastiness to the dumpling, thumbs up! The Deep Fried Taro Rolls with Chicken & Mushrooms(香芋丑小鸭)comes with a nice fragrance of the yum, is crispy and yet not too dry, the Baked BBQ Pork Pastry(蜜汁叉烧酥)is very crispy but not too sweet.

OCBC credit card members get a 20% off off ala-carte menu which is a pretty good deal.

Dinner @ Cafe 2000
Kit Kiat had a $50 dining voucher that is going to expire by end Oct so we decided to pop by for dinner. Had actually wanna try their semi buffet which is at $35/pax but decided to drop the idea as we figure out that we still need to pay approx. $30+ after deducting the voucher. However, it is not so cost savings ordering ala-carte as well. So we decided to do w/o drinks & dessert and still we need to top up $18+ :P

Luckily the dishes are not too bad, but not top fantastic as well. I have ordered the lobster-bility @ $28 & kiat ordered the steak @ $30. The lobster-bility is more of fusion style, it comes with grilled lobster served with a special sauce which i do not find it special at all. But I would say the lobster is cooked just nice. The black pepper udon fried with slices of capsicums just tasted ok, it do not have the nice fragrance that I have ever tried in other restaurants. The fish mousse is actually otah wrapped in banana leaf. It should be tastiest among all the dishes, it is marinated with thai spices but some may find it too strong. The achar is not too bad, but will taste nicer if it's more sour.

Ate the yummy stuff while the mess is all left on kit kiat's plate :P

Supper @ own leisure
Our dessert is only $4.60 for both, and that is...
tada.... the melted Magnolia French Vinalla & Tiramisu Gelato drink.... muahaha...

but I find it simply too creamy for me...

Wow... Really a "Sinful" day, committed one of the seven deadly sins - Gula (gluttony)... Oh Nooooooooooooo...
