Dell XPS13 Review

Recently had a chance to lay my hands on Dell XPS 13, a 13.3” ultra book with a 4th generation Haswell i5 processor installed with Windows 7.  I would prefer that the review set be installed with Windows 8 so that I can have a chance to test its touch screen performance too.

The thin and sleek laptop comes with Corning Gorilla Glass NBT screen and packed in machined aluminum and carbon fiber chassis which made it more sturdy and durable, it somehow feels heavier than it is at 1.36kg. The 13.3” display packed in a chassis similar to an 11” laptop has increased its portability.

You can expect superior graphics with Intel HD graphics 4400 on a full HD display, loving its vibrant colors of its display. One downside of the display is that, it is rather reflective, which makes viewing challenging in brightly lit surroundings.

With the 4th generation Intel Core processors, the Dell XPS 13 boots up pretty fast which is really satisfying and multi-tasking with several windows opened do not pose any issue or cause any slowdown to the processing speed.

The keyboard is very comfortable to type with, and love that it is back lit, which is great when typing under low light.  I tried typing with lights totally off, and had no issues in hitting the the correct message.  The keyboards soft muted clicks will be greatly appreciated when you do not have a room by yourself, leaving your office-mates or room-mates with peace.

Heat ventilation may be a concern to some as the machine can get heated up after some 45mins, but noise will not be much of a concern since Dell XPS 13 is rather tame and its noise goes unnoticed in most scenarios.

If I must find fault with Dell XPS 13, it does not come with a SD card slot which is a common feature among most laptops nowadays.  In additional, this laptop only comes with two USB 3.0 and a Display Port.  Thus a USB Hub may be required to bring along if you were to need to plug in a card reader, a portable hard disk and your mobile phone for charging at the same time, which is cumbersome.  Also battery life span of up to 5hours+ per full charge seems inadequate.

My verdict:
The price may seems a bit steep however its general performance is rather satisfactory.  The portability of this light weighted laptop will be great for consideration for those who are always on-the-go. Its sleek and chic design will be a favourite choice for those going after designs.

Specs of the review set:
Intel HD graphics 4400 on a full HD display.
4th generation Intel Core i5 processors
128GB mSATA solid state drive
Windows 7

MTV World Stage Malaysia 2014

16th August 2014 was an occasion for the music lovers to gather at Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon; where the 6th MTV World Stage Malaysia took place. The stellar line-up of performers B.o.B, Yuna, Boys Republic and Thaitanium rocked the stage in Malaysia with a sensation of R&B, hip-hop and K-pop performances.

Crowd can be spotted at the entrance of Sunway Lagoon as early as 4:30pm, despite the fact that it would start att 7:30pm only.  Although there's drizzling, the rain did not put off the music lovers.  The MTV World Stage Malaysia 2014 MUST take place, be it rain or shine!

As the night fallen, the entire Surf Beach was lighted up by the stage lights and it felt like the Kuala Lumpur (KL) City is all ready for a night of great performance,

Thaitanium, a Thai-American Hip Hop music group, kick start the concert and got the audience heated up and all set for the night.  KHAN, WAY, DAY, BIG CALO and Tony B wowed the audience with an upbeat 11-track medley, including an inaugural performance of their new single with Snoop Dogg, “Wake Up (Bangkok City)” where lyrics were tweaked to "Wake Up (KL City)".

When the 5 cute Korean guys from Boys Republic made their appearance, the younger fans started to scream with all their might!  They kicked off their performance with “You Are Special” and expressed their love in returning to Malaysia. Audience of MTV World Stage Malaysia were treated to their maiden performance of Boys Republic’s remix of “Video Game”, where fans were invited to post 15-second mobile phone clips on Instagram to #worldstagemyfancam.

One lucky fan, who won Boys Republic’s “Girlfriend” contest, was introduced during “Dress Up”, whom she got curated towards a new Korean look by the K-Pop group’s stylist and received a wardrobe she strutted proudly on-stage as the boys serenaded her. Their show culminated with fan favourite, “Party Rock”.

Malaysia's home girl, Yuna who is now based in Los Angeles, was warmly welcomed by the crowd as she elevated on to the stage, singing “Falling” against a backdrop of waterfall pyrotechnics. A nos. of both English and Malay songs, e.g. “Mountains”, “Lelaki”, “Dan Sebanarya”, “Lights And Camera” and “Terukir Di Bintang” were sung, fans were mesmerized  by Yuna when she performed “Rescue” with her ukulele. The Malaysian superstar then wrapped up her set with the song, “Come Back”. This is the first time I listen to Yuna's songs, they were refreshing, with a zest of bossa nova style, totally enjoyed her songs!

International rapper, B.o.B, returned to Malaysia and impressed the audience with an energetic performance of a 16-track medley, including "Don’t Let Me Fall”, “Ready ft. Future”, “Headband ft. 2 Chainz”, “John Doe ft. Priscilla” and “So Good”. Throughout his performance, B.o.B thrilled his fans by randomly snapping selfies with their phone and went crowd surfing. MTV World Stage Malaysia 2014 was lit up with audience waving their mobile phones to a soulful performance of “Both of Us ft. Taylor Swift”. It was a poignant moment when B.o.B dedicated global hit song “Airplanes ft. Hayley Williams of Paramore”, to all those who had lost loved ones in recent tragedies.
